Dr. Maurice McInerney, managing director at the American Institutes for Research, is a national expert on disability policy and translating scientific research into practice. He has successfully directed over 50 research, training, and technical assistance (TA) centers and projects. Dr. McInerney is currently Co-Principal Investigator / Co-Director of the National Center on Response to Intervention. This national TA center (www.rti4success.org), funded by the U.S. Office of Special Education Programs, helps states build their capacity to support school districts in implementing proven models for RTI. Dr. McInerney serves as Co-Principal Investigator of OSEP’s National Center on Student Progress Monitoring (www.studnetprogress.org), where his contributions include overseeing the center’s work to set rigorous standards for progress monitoring tools, and as Lead Investigator for OSEP’s Center for Early Literacy Learning (www.earlyliteracylearning.org), where he oversees TA to states on proven literacy practices for young children. Additionally, since 1998, he has directed OSEP’s Technical Support Contract, where he conducts policy, communication, and evaluation tasks of interest to federal decision-makers. Dr. McInerney is a former Mary E. Switzer National Research Fellow, currently a Fulbright Senior Specialist, and has published extensively on proven strategies and systems for scaling-up scientifically-based practices to improve results for children and families.
