John Hosp

Dr. John L. Hosp is an assistant professor in the School of Teacher Education and a research faculty member of the Florida Center for Reading Research at Florida State University. He received his Ph.D. in special education from Vanderbilt University and his M.S. in school psychology from the Rochester Institute of Technology. He is a nationally certified school psychologist who has worked in schools in New York and Nevada.

His research focuses on aspects of implementing response to intervention (RTI), including disproportionate representation of minority students in special education and aligning assessment and instruction, particularly in the areas of curriculum-based measurement and curriculum-based evaluation.

Dr. Hosp is one of the external evaluators for the Reading First Program for the State of Utah, which is implementing many of the characteristics of RTI. This work has allowed him the opportunity to work with several other states’ Reading First evaluators to examine the process and outcomes of such large-scale reading reform. He has presented at several national and international conferences on reading, the Reading First Program, and RTI.

He is also an author of several journal articles and a video on assessment in education. His books include The ABCs of CBM: A Practical Guide to Curriculum-Based Measurement, and Designing and Conducting Research in Education.
