Why should we undertake Response to Intervention (RTI) when we already have several other initiatives going on in our district?
Response from Ann Casey, Ph.D.: RTI is a framework that could be used as an organizing tool for all of our work in education. Welcome aboard:
You have asked a very important question. The best I can give you are high school examples. We're on an A - B block. The second block of our B day is a seminar block. It's essentially a building wide study period. Most of our tier 2 and 3 interventions take place during this block. By doing so, we're not taking any time away from classes. It has been very helpful and has enabled most of of our best interventions. A sister school of ours, Buffalo Grove High School, shortens the lunch periods. This approach is a lot easier to implement. You'll spend less time on reworking the schedule and the ensuring struggles and more time can be spent implementing your interventions.
I am quite interested on some ideas that you've had so far. This is a fairly common question.
Take care,
Charles

This is a really interesting topic for me. Can anyone else speak to the process of scheduling at the secondary level as it relates to RTI? Challenges or successes?
