Non-Academic Barriers to Achievement – Addressing School-Based Mental Health and Positive Behavior

Description:

Students with mental health and behavior issues face non-academic barriers to success in schools. All too often, these students are pushed out of general education classes because of the difficulties they present in the classroom. This conference will focus on strategies for meeting the needs of these students without resorting to referrals to the juvenile justice system or self-contained classes for students with emotional disabilities. The presenter will discuss the services and strategies for working across agencies and programs to minimize non-academic barriers that limit educational success.
