Andrew Krugly

andy-krugleyAndrew Krugly began his education career in Illinois teaching grades two and four, quickly establishing himself as a talented and zealous educator. In 1992, Andrew was the recipient of the Kohl International Teaching Award, and served on the board of the Kohl Academy of Outstanding Educators.

Upon earning his Masters in Education Administration and Supervision, Andrew became an adjunct faculty member of the National-Louis University in Evanston, IL, and moved into an administrative role as Principal of Willow Creek Elementary School in 1994 (Woodridge School District 68).

Andrew became Principal at Dewey Elementary School in Evanston/Skokie School District 65 in 1998. During his tenure at Dewey School, Andrew was a vanguard in behavioral and academic reform. He led sustained implementation of systemic reform including: the integration of a Spanish immersion program, the change in the Special Education service delivery model to one of inclusion, and the implementation of Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS) and Response to Intervention (RtI).  In 2011 his school was only one of 2 schools in the state recognized by the Illinois PBIS Network as an "exemplar school."

Andrew’s successful implementation of these programs while at Dewey School was punctuated by increases in state test scores for all student subgroups over eight consecutive years. Additionally, Dewey School was named to the State Honor Roll in 2004 for Academic Improvement and was ranked #31 in the state by the Chicago Sun-Times. In 2008, the Assistant Secretary for Special Education visited the school from Washington DC, and Dewey School was named an Illinois Honor Roll School for Academic Excellence.

Andrew currently resides in Chicago, IL, and is a National Leader and Mentor for the RtI Action Network. As a nationally recognized presenter and consultant, he also has contributed as the keynote at the regional PBIS Conference and the featured speaker at the NAESP Summer Conference.
